Junior Volunteers

For pet-loving youth who want to make a difference but are below the minimum age requirements for our regular volunteer program, VHS offers Junior Volunteers. Students age 12-15 gain valuable volunteer experience working a Cat Care shift alongside our Humane Education team, feeding and cleaning in Kitty City so that our adoptable animals enjoy their stay. Full training is provided.

Junior Volunteers receive hands-on training during Orientation on the first day of each four session dates running Thursdays from 3:30 – 5 pm (Orientation day is 3:30 – 5:30 pm).

Limited opportunities are also available for Junior Volunteers to assist with Workshops, Kindness Club, or Birthdays on Tuesdays, Fridays, or Saturdays. Please contact our Humane Education department for more information.

Community Service Projects

Service Project Consultation Workshop

For those seeking to complete a service project that will benefit the homeless and abandoned animals in our community, VHS offers the Service Project Consultation Workshop. (If you are under 12 years old, please join our weekly Kindness Club for service-learning opportunities.)

Learn more about our non-profit adoption center, the pets and community members our programs serve, and how you can help. Our Workshop will introduce you to our Humane Education team, who will serve as your contacts throughout your project, and will ensure that the time and effort you invest will help the animals of VHS in a meaningful and lasting way. Before we meet, please choose the projects that interest you from our approved list of current needs. At the Workshop, you will complete our Service Project Consultation form, to help you focus and refine your project idea. Our Service Project Reflection form must be turned in within two weeks of finishing your project for service credit.

The Service Project Consultation Workshop is required for scouts looking to complete:

  • Bronze, Silver, or Gold Awards
  • Eagle Scout Projects

Consultation Workshops are $15 per student, minimum of 4. Please contact our Humane Education department for more information.

Community Service Workshops

NEW! Come learn about Valley Humane Society and complete a series of service projects here during the Workshop. These projects might be creating toys for our dogs and cats, cleaning around the shelter, prepping for Humane Education classes, etc. (depending on the ages and skill levels of the group). Community Service Workshops are two hours long, and include an informational program about the humane society and a tour of the facility as well as team-building and service activities. We will sign off for your community service hours if needed.

Community Service Workshops are $15 per student, minimum of 6. Please contact our Humane Education department for more information.
