DESCRIPTION:Valley Humane Society rescues as many cats and dogs as our available kennel space allows. Ongoing adoptions to help to free up that space\, but foster families make a big difference. By opening up their hearts and homes\, foster families help expand the walls of our center to save more lives. In addition\, fostering: \n\nPrepares dogs and cats for adoption\nProvides a place for sick or injured animals to heal\nHelps young animals stay healthy\nCoaxes shy animals out of their shells\nOffers a short-term volunteer commitment\n\nValley Humane Society provides everything needed to foster an animal – veterinary care\, food\, dishes\, litter box\, litter\, travel carrier\, collar and leash\, etc. Foster families must bring their charges in for medical checkups and return them once they have reached adoptable status…and provide lots of love and attention\, of course! \nTo become a foster\, the first step is to attend a Foster Families Workshop (volunteers only need to attend 1 workshop). All members of a household responsible for care of the animal(s) must attend. Workshops are hosted in Valley Humane’s Community Room located at 3670 Nevada Street in Pleasanton. Our next workshop is on Tuesday\, May 20 at 5 pm. Sign up for the workshop here.

DESCRIPTION:Join companion animal advocates from Valley Humane Society and across the state for a day of action at the California State Capitol in Sacramento. We warmly invite you to join us on April 29th to advocate for pets and their people and meet with legislators. This will be an energizing and impactful experience for everyone. \nThe day will begin with at 9:00 AM at Westminster Church near the State Capitol\, with great speakers and important directions for the day. When the program wraps\, the group will walk to the Capitol to meet with legislators and their staff in the legislative office building. Event organizers will set up the meetings and provide talking points on current legislation. You may not necessarily meet with your legislator – but organizers will do their best! \nYour privacy is important to us. By registering for this event\, your information will not be added to any mailing lists or shared with other organizations. \nWhen you register\, there will be an option to order a boxed lunch for pick up in the legislative office building – or you can get lunch on your own.
