Earn a Valley Humane Society Patch

Join us for a fun-filled workshop suited to your Scouting level. Each session is one hour in length and includes a colorful Valley Humane Society patch for each participating student. Workshops meet most or all of the requirements for their respective badges.

Workshops are 1 hour in length for both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. Dates/times will be scheduled a minimum of 30 days in advance; we will do our best to accommodate your scheduling request. Scouts looking to complete a service project should schedule a consultation workshop.

Girl Scouts

Daisies: Animal Journey Workshop

Daisies learn the basics of animal safety and pet guardianship, including the proper way to greet a dog and how paying attention to animal body language can keep you safe. Children compare the needs of humans and non-human animals. Includes a behind-the-scenes tour, Daisy Workbook, and fun, colorful Valley Humane patch for each participant. Daisies can also earn their Rosie Petal (Making the World a Better Place). Please request a list of our current needs.
$5 per participating student. Covers some of the Animal Journey requirements.

Brownies: Pets Workshop

The Brownie workshop is focused on responsible pet guardianship, with a review of animal safety and pet communication. Scouts learn how much time, money and effort it takes to keep a pet healthy and happy.  Each participating child “adopts” a plush cat or dog with collar and tag to take home in a paper crate. Includes a behind-the-scenes tour, Brownie Workbook, and a fun, colorful Valley Humane patch for each participant.
$15 per participating student.

Juniors: Animal Habitats Workshop

Join us for a wild adventure! Juniors explore animal habitats and learn how threats to the environment affect wild animals. Scouts “migrate” through the facility as an endangered species, pausing at stopover points to practice natural animal behaviors such as feeding and socializing. We discuss creating a humane backyard for urban wildlife, and make an upcycled bird feeder to take home. Includes a behind-the- scenes tour, Junior Workbook, and fun, colorful Valley Humane patch for each participant.
$15 per participating student.

Cadettes: Animal Helpers Workshop

Cadettes explore the connection between humans and non-human animals, and discover how we keep each other safe and improve each other’s lives. A VHS Canine Comfort team (dog and handler) will share how they make a difference in our community through pet therapy visitation. Includes a behind-the-scenes tour, Cadette Workbook, and a fun, colorful Valley Humane patch for each participant.
$10 per participating student.

Boy Scouts

Cub Scout (Bear) Critter Care Workshop

Scouts learn the basics of pet guardianship and animal safety, including the proper way to greet a dog and how paying attention to animal body language can keep you safe. Children compare the needs of humans and non-human animals, and learn a few ways animals can help humans. Includes a behind-the-scenes tour, Cub Scout Workbook, and fun, colorful Valley Humane patch for each participant.
$5 per participating student.

Cub Scout Pet Care Belt Loop and Pin Workshop

What does it mean to have a pet “for life?” Scouts explore the demands of pet guardianship, such as how much it costs and what is required for proper care. Dog safety, how to properly greet a dog, pet body language, and service project opportunities are also covered. Each participating child “adopts” a plush cat or dog with collar and tag to take home in a paper crate. Includes a behind-the-scenes tour, Cub Scout Workbook, and fun, colorful Valley Humane patch for each participant.
$15 per participating student.

Service Project Consultation Workshop

Service Project Consultation Workshops will be held every three months or when sign-up list reaches four students (those listed will receive an scheduling email). Learn more about our non-profit adoption center, the pets and community members our programs serve, and how you can help. Our workshop will introduce you to our Humane Education team, who will serve as your contacts throughout your project, and will ensure that the time and effort you invest will help the animals of Valley Humane Society in a meaningful and lasting way. At the Workshop, you will complete our Service Project Consultation form, to help you focus and refine your project idea. Our Service Project Reflection form must be turned in within two weeks of finishing your project for service credit.
Required for Bronze/Silver/Gold/Eagle Service Projects.
$15 per participating student.
