Bonito Benito Is Waiting for You
There is a cat at Valley Humane Society who has the aunties talking.
His name is Benito. He is a young adult black cat with light green eyes that stop you mid-scroll, the kind of eyes that make people comment “ojitos lindos.” He is quiet, sweet, and completely unbothered in the best possible way. He does not demand your attention, but he gives his freely.
And somehow, this perfect gato is still waiting for his family.
Who Is Benito?
Benito is a domestic shorthair mix, estimated to be between one and four years old, and weighing in at a very respectable 9.1 pounds. He came to Valley Humane in February 2026, and he has been charming everyone in Kitty City ever since.
He is the kind of cat who makes a house feel like home without taking over. Friendly and sociable, he loves people and will absolutely accept your cuddles, but he is also an adult cat with his own quiet maturity. He is just going to be there, steady and sweet, making your home cozier.
One of the staff’s favorite things about Benito is that he is a social eater. He likes company at mealtime, a little pat on the back while he eats, someone nearby. He loves connection.
If you work from home, Benito will be a very good coworker. If you live alone and want a companion who matches your energy without overwhelming it, Benito is your guy. If you have a quieter household and want a cat who fits into the rhythm of your life without disrupting it, look no further.
Benito’s Health Journey
When Benito arrived at Valley Humane, he came with something extra in his chart: stomatitis, a condition that causes significant inflammation in a cat’s mouth and gums. Stomatitis is believed to be an immune response to plaque on the teeth, and for cats who develop it, it can be genuinely uncomfortable. Benito needed relief, and our team made sure he got it.
At Valley Humane’s Veterinary Surgery Clinic, our skilled veterinary team performed a dental extraction procedure, removing most of his teeth that are commonly associated with triggering the inflammatory response. This is the gold-standard treatment for feline stomatitis, and it is the intervention that gives cats the best chance at a comfortable, pain-free life. The clinic exists because of the generosity of Valley Humane’s supporters, and Benito is exactly the kind of animal that support was meant for.
He came to us in need of care. He got it, and now he is doing well, just waiting for his new home.
Stomatitis is an allergy-based condition, which means Benito will always carry that sensitivity. But with the primary source of irritation removed, most cats go on to live full, healthy, happy lives. Benito is on that path. He will need a family who is comfortable with his medical history and committed to regular veterinary checkups, but he is not a high-maintenance cat. He is a cat who had a health journey, came out the other side, and is ready for the good part–hopefully you!
The Right Home for Benito
Benito does not need a special setup; he just needs someone who appreciates a calm, affectionate companion and who is comfortable knowing his health history and staying on top of routine vet care.
He is a good fit for a quiet home or apartment, a single-person household, a remote worker, or anyone who wants a sociable but independent cat. If you have been thinking about adopting an adult cat, Benito is your reason to stop thinking about it and start filling out the adoption paperwork.
