Meet Pickles, Martini, and Turanga Leela

Some of our favorite adoption stories begin with animals who arrived at Valley Humane needing more than just routine veterinary care.

Thanks to our donor-supported Medical Assistance Fund, we’re able to provide advanced veterinary care, specialized treatment, and ongoing support that ensures animals have access to what they need, when they need it. That even includes shelter animals with more complex medical needs that require additional time, resources, and medical investment.

The Medical Assistance Fund helped hundreds of animals last year alone…animals like Pickles, Martini, and Turanga Leela. See for yourself!

Pickles

When Pickles arrived at Valley Humane, she was weak and tiny, just a single puppy battling parvovirus, a highly contagious disease that can quickly become fatal without treatment. The Medical Assistance Fund allowed Pickles to receive a newer antiviral therapy that helped her recover more quickly than would have been possible with supportive care alone.

Thankfully, Pickles was a fighter! After weeks of intensive hands-on care and close monitoring from our veterinary team, she made a full recovery. Today, she’s healthy, happy, and exactly where she belongs: in a loving home surrounded by people who adore her.

Martini

Martini was born with cerebellar hypoplasia, a neurological condition that affects balance and coordination. Her unique way of getting around was just one small part of a personality that was playful, curious, and full of affection. In fact, one of the first things our veterinary team noted during her exam was her exceptionally loud purr!

Martini was diagnosed with help from the Medical Assistance Fund, which provided a comprehensive assessment and evaluation of her condition. With a little extra care and a lot of love, Martini continued to thrive while waiting for the right family to adopt her. Today, she’s living her best life with people who adore her just as she is, wobbles and all.

Turanga Leela

Turanga Leela came to Valley Humane after suffering serious injuries that left her with a severely damaged eye and needing extensive care. The Medical Assistance Fund covered the surgery Leela needed to remove the eye, provided medication, and supported weeks of follow-up care, that allowed her heal.

Once she started feeling better, Leela’s joyful spirit quickly shone through. Today, she’s thriving in a loving home and bringing smiles to everyone lucky enough to know her.

Thanks to the Medical Assistance Fund, our team is able to focus on what an animal needs today, as well as what’s possible for their future. This gives animals with complex medical needs a chance to do more than just survive. They get to thrive!
