Medical Assistance Fund: Bridging Gaps in Care
Valley Humane’s Medical Assistance Fund is a donor-powered fund that allows us to expand access to veterinary care for local animals. It makes sure animals in our shelter get what they need, when they need it, and also takes veterinary care out into our community to keep animals healthy right where they are.
From the beginning, Medical Assistance Fund has provided specialized medical care for shelter animals. Thanks to the fund, our team can focus on what an animal needs today to prepare them for a healthy, happy future. This gives animals with complex medical needs a chance to do more than just survive. They get to thrive!
But lifesaving veterinary care doesn’t stop at our shelter doors. Today, the Medical Assistance Fund reaches animals in many ways. In addition to serving shelter animals, the fund:
- Helps families care for the animals they love by making spay and neuter surgeries available to pet owners experiencing financial hardship.
- Supports our growing Field Vet Program, which sends our veterinary team out to deliver free vet care to community members receiving assistance through need-based organizations such as Open Heart Kitchen, CityServe Livermore, Goodness Village, and Valley Humane’s AniMeals Pet Food Pantry. We’ve also recently partnered with Bay Area Community Health to provide veterinary care during their outreach visits to encampments in Livermore, helping pets receive wellness care and connect with additional veterinary services when needed.
- Ensures unowned cats and kittens rescued by community members are spayed and neutered, improving the health of individual cats while preventing future unwanted litters.
Whether it’s a an adoptable dog with a complicated medical issue, a community cat receiving a life-changing surgery, or a family who needs help accessing preventive care, our donor-supported Medical Assistance Fund allows more animals in our community to get the veterinary care they need.
