Stay Gold, Dally: The Last of the Outsiders Litter Is Looking for His Crew

When a litter of pups arrived at Valley Humane Society this spring, the staff named them after the crew from S.E. Hinton’s classic novel, The Outsiders. One by one, the brothers found their homes and headed off to their happy endings. Darry, Soda, and Ponyboy Curtis packed up, and loyal Johnny Cade followed close behind. Now there is a single greaser left on the lot, and his name is Dallas “Dally” Winston.

Dally is a one-year-old small mixed breed with a tan and black coat and the kind of easy charm that wins over a whole room. He tips the scale at just over nine pounds, making him a pocket-sized member of the gang with a heart that runs big.

A loyal sidekick with a love of adventure

Dally is friendly, excitable, and seriously smart. He lives for long walks and the cozy cuddle session that follows, the well-earned reward for a good day’s adventuring. Like any clever character, he needs his mind kept busy, so a tricky puzzle feeder or a sturdy chew toy will keep this greaser grinning.

During his time in foster care, Dally buddied up with an older dog and showed that he can happily share a home with the right calm companion. Out on walks he still barks at the dogs he passes, so a little more real-world practice meeting other pups will help him feel like one of the gang. With people, there is no warming up required. Dally is thrilled to meet everyone, every single time.

How Dally became an Outsider

Dally and his siblings were found as strays and came to Valley Humane Society on March 11 from Stockton Animal Services. Since then, he has been soaking up love in a foster home and learning what life looks like when someone has his back. He is neutered, healthy, and ready for the next chapter.

Dally’s adoption fee is also waived, so welcoming this small dog into your Pleasanton home is easier than ever. If small dog adoption in Pleasanton has been on your mind, the timing could not be better.

Bring Dally home

Every greaser needs his people, and Dally is ready to find his. He would do best with a family in the Tri-Valley and East Bay area who can give him good walks, fun enrichment, and plenty of room on the couch. He can share a home with a calm, dog-savvy companion or happily reign as your one and only.

Do it for Dally. Stay gold, and give this last Outsider the loyal crew he has been waiting for.
