Meet Peanut Brittle: A Sweet Senior Ready for His Golden Days

Some sweet things only get better with age, and Peanut Brittle is the proof. This gentle senior pup is an old-fashioned classic, the kind of companion who reminds you that the best moments in life can be the slow, simple ones. At a petite 8 pounds and 10-plus years young, he is settling into his retirement and looking for a special person to share it with.

A Recipe for the Perfect Quiet Companion

Peanut Brittle is a calm, easygoing boy who has mastered the art of relaxation. His ideal day starts with a leisurely morning walk, moves into a sunny afternoon of sunbathing, and ends with a good night’s sleep curled up right on the bed (he is a champion sleeper who snoozes straight through the night and rises around 7am, like clockwork). He is fully house trained and not much interested in toys. He would rather spend his energy on the things that matter: a warm lap, a patch of sunshine, and the steady company of someone who loves him.

Because of his unhurried pace, Peanut Brittle will thrive with an adopter who shares his mellow lifestyle. If your idea of a perfect afternoon involves quiet companionship and a cozy spot by the window, you two are going to get along beautifully.

Caring for a TLC Sweetheart

We believe in being open about what Peanut Brittle needs, because the right home will love him all the more for it. He comes with a couple of age-related medical conditions and will need an adopter who is ready to keep up with his ongoing veterinary care.

First, his smile. Peanut Brittle recently had a dental cleaning at our Phil Scholz Veterinary Surgery Center and now has nine remaining teeth. He may prefer soft or canned food going forward, which just makes mealtime that much cozier. Second, his heart. He has a heart murmur (Grade 4 of 6) that most likely points to degenerative mitral valve disease, a common condition in small senior dogs. With regular check-ups and veterinary guidance, including medication if his veterinarian recommends it down the road, he can keep right on enjoying his walks and his sunbeams.

This type of adoption is offered as-is, with no guarantee of a definitive prognosis, and Valley Humane is unable to provide medical care after adoption. Peanut Brittle needs a loving person who will stay on top of his health and give him a soft place to land for the rest of his days. We can provide his lab work and x-rays for your veterinarian, so you will have all the information you need to care for him well.

The Sweetest Part

Here is some good news to top it all off: thanks to a generous donor, Peanut Brittle’s adoption fee has been fully sponsored. That kindness means his future family can put their focus right where it belongs, on welcoming him home and keeping him comfortable and cared for. When you adopt a senior like Peanut Brittle, you give a deserving dog the gift of a peaceful, loving retirement, one of the most rewarding things an adopter can do.
