Meet Bean: A Sweet Small Adoptable Dog at Valley Humane Society
Every good Bean needs time to sprout, and this little legume is no exception. Bean is a 10-pound, white mixed breed with soft eyes, a fluffy coat, and the kind of gentle sweetness that sneaks up on you. He can be shy at first, especially with new people, but give him a little patience and space and you will be rewarded with something wonderful: a wiggly, hopping, full-body celebration every time you walk into the room. Once Bean decides you are his person, he means it.
Bean arrived at Valley Humane Society in mid-January after transferring from the Tri-City Animal Shelter, where he had been found as a stray. He was heavily matted and dealing with ear infections, and it was clear he had been on his own for a while. Our team got him the care he needed, including a much-needed haircut and medical treatment for his ears. His coat has since grown back in soft and fluffy, and he is feeling like a brand new dog. Watching him come back to life over the past few months has been one of the best parts of having him here.
Bean is leash trained and loves a leisurely 30-minute walk with plenty of time to sniff everything in sight. He welcomes head scratches and chest pets, though he is still a little sensitive around his ears and back end from his earlier condition. He is improving with house-training and does well with regular yard breaks throughout the day. Bean is a young adult, estimated to be between 1 and 4 years old, so he has plenty of good years ahead of him.
Shelter life has been a big adjustment for Bean. Loud noises make him nervous, and he does not love being alone. He is the kind of dog who wants to be near his people, whether that means sitting at your feet while you work or tagging along on a weekend stroll around the neighborhood. A calm, patient household where he can settle in at his own pace will bring out the very best in him.
Bean has been waiting for his family since January, and his adoption fee has been waived. If you have the patience for a shy dog with a huge heart and an even bigger hop, this little legume is ready to plant some roots.
